Who is Project HOPE Thailand

The philosophy of Project HOPE (the acronym stands for “Health Opportunities for People Everywhere”) was first enunciated by its founder, William B. Walsh, M.D. “Project HOPE is an ideal based upon the premise that the more fortunate do not have the obligation to take care of the world, but because of their blessings they have a responsibility to help the world to take care of itself. The essence is

teaching. The basis is partnership.” Project HOPE strives to provide lasting, sustainable solutions to health problems around the world, working in partnership with people and communities, giving them the opportunity and the means to help themselves. The goal is improved health; the primary vehicles are training and education, and short-term medical humanitarian aid in certain situations.

In the midst of the 1997 financial crisis in Thailand, Dr. Sem Pringpuangkeaw, Founder of Dr. Sem Pringpuangkeaw’s Foundation, asked Project HOPE to provide humanitarian assistance to indigent children of the northern region

suffering from chronic diseases. Thus, the Project HOPE Thailand office was established in the spring of 1998 not only to address this request, but to also implement the very first program of HOPE Thailand, the HOPE Partner Education Program. Since then, HOPE Thailand program activities have expanded greatly to include the School-Based HIV/AIDS Prevention Project, Community Led HIV/AIDS Prevention Project, Pediatric Cardiac Nursing Training Program, Cervical Cancer Prevention Program, and Critical Care Nursing Training Program.
